Six anglers fished the annual spring Maryland Saltwater Sportsman Association rockfish tournament held on 1-3 May. The weather was bad, but that didn't diminish the number of boats fishing this popular tournament and the enthusiasm of those angling for big stripers. Long Time Com'n left at 0600 each morning and fished near Hooper Island Light and Nav Aids 72A and 74. The first two days saw a steady catch of fish, with 8 on Friday and 9 on Saturday. But Sunday was slow, with only 2 fish in the boat. The largest fish caught was 28.5 pounds, not enough weight to place in the tournament, but the fish brought to the dock netted many fillets for the freezer. Long Time Com'n will be back again next year and will search for the winning fish. |
